Sports Nutrition

Making sure you have the right food and fuel for your sporting needs is vital, and can make the difference between winning and losing. Recover Sports Medicine offers a variety of individual and team services in the area of sports nutrition, from the recreational athlete through to elite level.
One on one consultation can help athletes better prepare and recover from training and competition, as well as maximise their performance. We also provide nutrition services to sporting teams and clubs such as Kingston City FC (Victorian Premier League soccer) and Old Brighton Grammarians Football Club (VAFA A Grade football). In May 2007 we worked closely with road cyclists who completed the Tour De Cure, a 10 day ride from Brisbane to Sydney to raise money for cancer research. Our sports nutrition include:
  • Nutritional screening, assessing current practices
  • Individual nutrition plans for training and competition
  • Hydration testing and development of fluid intake plans
  • Information and interactive talks with athletes about how to maximise performance
  • Body fat testing and advice
  • Supplement advice
  • Provision of training and match day food and fluids to maximise on field performance and recovery.

Weight Management

Losing weight and keeping it off is not easy – if it was we wouldn’t see 65% of Australian men and 52% of Australian women overweight or obese. Our Accredited Practicing Dietitian Alan McCubbin uses a variety of techniques to help clients utilise the latest knowledge in weight loss to maximise your success. Techniques used include:

  • Individual dietary analysis
  • Behavioural counselling
  • Meal replacement, Very Low Calorie Diets
  • Individual VO2 peak testing results to prescribe an individualised exercise plan
  • Accurate body composition measurement using the most advanced techniques (such as DEXA)

Chronic Disease Management

Chonic illnesses such as Diabetes, heart, kidney and lung diseases are affecting more and more Australians. Nutrition plays a large part in minimising the complications of these illnesses, and helps to improve overall health and wellbeing. Alan has a wealth of experience working with clients with chronic illness, employing an approach that empowers clients to set their own goals and work together to achieve these. Those with chronic illnesses are often eligible for a Medicare Rebate to see our dietitians and physiotherapists at Recover Sports Medicine one on one. Give us a call or speak to your GP for more information about this.

Gastrointestinal Disorders

Gastrointestinal disorders such as Coeliac Disease and Lactose Intolerance are discomforting for sufferers but can be resolved through dietary change. Food often plays a large role in illnesses such as Irritable Bowel Syndrome, Crohns Disease and Diverticular Disease, and can be managed with appropriate dietary advice. At Recover Sports Medicine we use the latest knowledge in the treatment of gastrointestinal disorders, as well as the resources to refer for testing and diagnosis of fructose malabsorption and lactose intolerance.

Food Allergies and Intolerances

Food allergies and intolerances can be difficult to accurately pinpoint and diagnose, and cause a lot of frustration amongst those that experience them. In most cases, food-related symptoms can be identified and your diet altered to avoid the aggravating components. Many complementary medicine therapists use unproven methods of diagnosing allergies and intolerances (such as hair, eye and skin tests), and prescribe diets that are far more restricted than they need to be. Our dietitian Alan can help you to accurately diagnose and manage food allergies or intolerances without compromising your health or nutrition.
